Grains Council Promotes DDGS in Ecuador

The U.S. Grains Council is striving to reintroduce U.S. dried distillers grains with solubles into the Ecuadorian market beginning this month, according to an article on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…).

Ecuador has not been a consistent buyer of U.S. DDGS, buying only small quantities. The Council began holding technical seminars in Ecuador in 2010 on nutrition and formulation, DDG prices, logistics, product handling and storage, etc. As a result of the seminars and the Council's 2012 Export Exchange, Ecuador signed an agreement to purchase 3,000 metric tons of U.S. DDGS worth about $1.1 million.

This month, the Council is continuing its efforts with onsite trainings and groups session to small producers associations in Ecuador, as well as providing nutritionists information about recommended inclusion rates of DDGS. This matrix shows that U.S. DDGS can save Ecuadorian feed millers between $7 and $15 per metric ton, even at low inclusion rates of 10%.

The Council believes that future DDGS exports to Ecuador could reach a potential of as much as 250,000 tons per year.
