Short Covering Lifts Spot Ethanol Values in Early Trade

Spot ethanol prices were higher in early trade Monday, with the upside partly driven by physical supply tightness at some regional hubs, while a forecast for a weekly build in national inventories is limiting the gains.

"I think some of these players in NYH are short and Argo is relatively full ... so spread makes sense," said one trader, who was explaining why premium for West Coast over Chicago prices widened to 20 cents today from about 13 cents over the past few weeks. "People are just short," added another trader. "I expect EIA to show higher inventories."
