The U.S. Grains Council announced that the Algerian government has extended the removal of value added tax and other custom taxes on all feed imports until August 2013, according to an article on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…).

At one time, the VAT and custom tax for dried distillers grains with solubles and corn gluten feed had been set at 17% and 30% respectively. Those high taxes virtually put an end to U.S. exports of DDGS and CGF.

After a 3 1/2-year effort by the Council, Algeria removed the VAT and custom tax on all feed imports, including DDGS and CGF, until December 2012. With the extension of the zero VAT and custom taxes and the Council's continued work with the Algerian feed industry, the Council hopes for future trade of DDGS and CGF with Algeria.
