Action in the dried distillers grains market was fairly quiet last week, with little change in prices.

The DTN weekly spot price average was relatively unchanged, rising only a slight $1 per ton since the prior week. The average has hovered between $256 and $261 per week since Thanksgiving.

Of the 29 Midwestern locations DTN collects prices from, 16 locations reported their spot prices were unchanged from the prior week, while 10 locations said their prices increased between $2 and $10 per ton, though most increases were in the $2 to $5-per-ton range. Only three locations said their prices had decreased since the week before, between $2 and $7 per ton.

Merchandisers reported that demand was lackluster during the week, and with market was quiet and looking for direction in anticipation of USDA's final crop production report on Friday.

The value of DDG relative to corn dropped slightly from the prior week, from 103.59% to 102.58%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was relatively unchanged since last week.

The cost per unit of protein for DDG was $10.24 last week, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $8.60.
