After increasing steadily since 2004, exports of U.S.-produced dried distillers grains with solubles to Japan reached an all-time high in 2012, according to an article by the U.S. Grains Council (http://bit.ly/…).

According to statistics from Japan's Ministry of Finance Customs, Japan imported more than 384,000 metric tons of DDGS between January and October. That total was expected to reach 450,000 mt by the end of the year.

The upswing in DDGS imports is largely because Japanese nutritionists are becoming more familiar with low-fat DDGS due to the growing trend of corn oil extraction among U.S. ethanol plants.
