A recent mission by the U.S. Grains Council in Morocco was aimed at building markets for U.S.-produced grains and dried distillers grains with solubles, according to an article on the USGC website (http://bit.ly/…).

A team of six high level Tunisian agricultural professionals toured COPAG, one of Morocco's top dairy cooperatives, a longtime USGC partner and success story in creating long-term feed demand. The team witnessed modern methods of dairy fattening and rearing techniques, improved organization and management leading to improved quality of milk and meat production, and promotion and development of the feed grains and related livestock sector. Participants also met directly with Moroccan dairy farmers, cooperative directors, feed grains importers, agricultural professional organizations and livestock engineers.

One of the Tunisian companies that participated in the trip has since begun construction of a small cattle feedlot and dairy heifer raising center. This will create new markets for feed grains and DDGS in Tunisia for U.S. exporters. As Tunisia's Ministry of Agriculture's Livestock Office encourages more of these types of expansion efforts, USGC plans to continue seeking opportunities to support such ventures.
