Climate Mitigation Measures Threaten Tribes

A recent report reveals that attempts to prevent climate change may be as damaging to indigenous people than global warming, according to Sideways News. Survival International, an organization that supports tribal peoples worldwide, release a report that specifies four mitigation measures that threaten tribal people: biofuels, hydro-electric power, forest conservation and carbon offsetting. The report emphasizes Brazil's Guarani tribe, the country's largest tribe, who are being endangered from sugar cane production.

DTN: The tribe stands to lose both their homes and food supplies as land from the Amazon rainforest is converted for sugar cane production and are forced to live on tiny plots of land near sugar cane plantations. If the invasion of sugar cane continues, millions of members of the Guarani tribe could lose their ability to survive, as they would be unable to grow enough food to feed their families. Sugar cane production has also been linked with polluting river and killing fish. (Cheryl Anderson)

Yet the AGW crowd seem to be forging ahead like DeNile in full flood. Contrast their behavior with that of George Taylor, which led to the following award: www.americanagriwomen.org/aaw-honors-meteorologist-george-taylor-2009-veritas-award
