Verdezyne Raises Venture Funding to Develop Fuels with Microbes

Carlsbad Calif.-based Verdezyne has raised nearly $3 million of a planned $15.2 million round of venture capital, according to xconomy.com, with plans to help improve ethanol plant operations.

The company is developing genetic engineering techniques and processes to improve ethanol fermentation and for new ways of producing chemicals. The technology could help ethanol producers by improving yields, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and speeding up the ethanol fermentation process.
