Carmakers Fight Hike in Ethanol at gas Pumps

A special interest group representing the auto industry has voiced opposition to a request by Growth Energy to allow the use of E15 in standard vehicles, according to the Detroit News.

Mike Stanton, CEO of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, the trade group representing foreign automakers said the U.S. would not be able to consume even half of the 36 billion gallons of ethanol required to be produced in the Renewable Fuel Standard by 2022, just by requiring all pumps to be E10.

Automakers are concerned that higher ethanol blends could boost greenhouse gas emissions, damage engines or disable vehicles, and have called on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to further study the effects of the move to E15.

More than 13,000 people and groups have written the EPA since the request was filed in March.

Try to do anything in this world and you will quickly see who your friends are. I don't understand why the auto industry is against the increased fuel availability and security provided by ethanol. Do any of these people realize Iran is testing missiles to threaten choking off 40% of worlds oil supply? Wow! I guess we can live with that, it's the 15% ethanol blend we can't seem to stand. Maybe their sons and daughters aren’t on those ships that are going to face those missiles.

My unmodified cars and pickup keep motoring on with oil staying bright and clean. This on 30% ethanol for the cars and 8 years of 50% for the pickup. I guess I better tell them to break down since this doesn't work according to their manufacturers.
