An Urban's Rural View
Gone Fishing (Well, Same Idea, Anyway)
The world has not beaten a path to my door, so maybe the GMO-labeling compromise I proposed in my last post (http://tiny.cc/…) is not as good a mousetrap as I thought. Or maybe it's just an idea whose time has not come.
Vermont is on the verge of passing the nation's first law requiring food with genetically engineered ingredients to be labeled. But the law won't take effect until 2016, so there's still time for Congress to rally around a compromise that would mandate labeling nationally but require the label information to be truly informational, and not just an ill-founded attempt to scare consumers off.
Meanwhile, I'm taking a few weeks off to travel and recharge batteries. An Urban's Rural will be back with new posts sometime in mid-May.
