This chart shows the trends in producer deliveries into licensed facilities as reported by the Canadian Grain Commission. Wheat, durum and canola showed a sharp increase in deliveries in the most recent week, with total grain volumes well above recent history. (DTN graphic by Nick Scalise)

The Canadian Grain Commission's Grain Statistics Weekly report for week 12 shows that the total producer deliveries of all grains into licensed facilities in the west remain well ahead of past years, with last year's significant carry-over helping drive movement early in the crop year.

As of week 12, or the week ending October 26, producers had delivered a total of 12.91 million metric tonnes of the grains, oilseeds and special crops covered in the report. This volume is 1.86 mmt or 16.9% above the same date last year while also 2.8 mmt or 27.7% above the five-year average.

Despite the higher deliveries, prairie elevator stocks as of week 12 were reported at 2.778 mmt, which is 21% below year-ago levels. Primary elevator shipments, on the other hand, are reported at 10.948 mmt, 19.6% above year-ago levels, largely due to the early start to the shipping program due to readily available supplies available for movement early in the crop year combined with the minimum weekly volume mandate imposed upon the railways.

By commodity, the largest year-over-year change in producer deliveries is seen for canola, where the reported 4.142 mmt of producer deliveries is 1.22 mmt or 41.9% higher than year-ago volumes. The next largest change in delivery patterns is seen with peas, where the 1.267 mmt delivered as of Oct. 26 is 331,500 mt higher than year-ago levels. Looking at other grains, producers have delivered 70,000 mt less wheat than last year and 131,200 mt more durum.
