With harvest reported at 23% complete in Saskatchewan as of Sept. 15, the pace of progress is behind four of the past five years. The 2014 harvest pace is represented by the black line. (DTN graphic by Nick Scalise)

While Saskatchewan's harvest advanced over the past week, this year's pace remains well behind last year and well behind the average pace seen over the past five years. As seen on the attached chart, 23% of the crop was reported as harvested as of Sept. 15, which is behind every year of the last five except 2010, where only 14% was harvested as of Sept. 13.

Should harvest continue to track a pace similar to the trends seen in the years 2010 and 2013, harvest could be nearing the end in the Oct. 14 to 18 period across the province.

Supportive weather seems a possibility through the middle of October, according to Doug Webster, DTN Senior Ag Meteorologist. On average he favors mild, dry weather to support the harvest.
