Mahindra USA is beginning to roll out its inaugural line of mPACT XTVs, the tractor manufacturer's new, built-from-the-ground-up entry into the highly competitive off-road utility vehicle market.

The line includes a three-passenger, standard model (S), a six-passenger crew version (C), and a distinctive, long bed vehicle with space for three passengers (L). Each model is powered by either a gasoline or diesel power plant. A Kohler 750cc, fuel-injected gasoline engine powers the S, C and L models in the mPACT XTV 750 series. Kohler's 1000cc diesel engine powers the S, C, and L versions of the XTV1000 series vehicles. The Houston, Texas, tractor manufacturer has teamed with Intimidator Inc. to build the high-capacity mPACTs.

"We have a product that is unlike any other in the market -- we are changing the game and will make an immediate impact as we enter the Utility Vehicle market," said Chris Karibo, senior business manager for Mahindra USA.

Of the line, the long-bed design is an eye-catcher. It is fitted with a very large, 34-cubic-foot steel bed (70x60x14 inches). The aluminum bed carries up to 1,200 pounds of cargo (as do the other versions, with the exception of the crew variants, which carry 1,000 pounds). The sides of the bed fold down, creating space for a pallet of cargo or a big round bale. Below the cargo bed are two sealed storage compartments.

The machines move cargo and passengers across country at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. The vehicles mount standard front and rear, two-inch receivers. All versions of the mPACT tow up to 2,100 pounds.

Other standard features include true 4WD, 12 inches of ground clearance, 10 inches of travel in the suspension, four-wheel, hydraulic disc brakes, electric power cargo box lift (with the exception of the long bed version), 27-inch ATV tires mounted on 14-inch aluminum wheels, tilt steering, 12-volt outlet, digital display gauge, and a three-year powertrain/one-year bumper-to-bumper warranty.

"Our partnership with Intimidator brings together two companies with shared vision, an innovative approach to product design and a passionate commitment to quality," said Mani Iyer, president of Mahindra USA. A spokesman for the company said dealer orders for the mPACTs have exceeded the company's expectations. The machines are manufactured at Intimidator's facility in Batesville, Ark.

Mahindra mPACT XTVs will be available exclusively at Mahindra dealer locations throughout the U.S. The machines will be shipped to points east of the Rocky Mountains in the spring and expand west over the summer months. The manufacturer said these six models are only the first of more to come. Additional models and accessories will be announced over the next year. For example, Mahindra promises a camo-and-hunting model in the near future.

"The utility vehicle segment is a natural extension to our growing line of tractors and will add fuel to Mahindra's rapid growth in North America," said Cleo Franklin, Mahindra USA's vice president of marketing and strategic planning.

Mahindra has released these prices for its six models: XTV 750S ($12,999); XTV 750C ($14,999); XTV 750L ($15,299); XTV 1000S ($15,999); XTV 1000C ($17,999); XTV 1000L ($18,299).
