With all the product releases coming across my desk, I thought it might be time to write about a few of them.

John Deere. The farm equipment company has updated its line of 5E Series Utility tractors (45-100 horsepower) with new Interim Tier 4 engine models. New 5E 85 and 100 horsepower 4-cylinder tractors replace the 83, 93 and 101 horsepower models.

The new line also includes four, 3-cylinder models ranging from 45 to 75 horsepower. The new 5085E and 5100E feature Interim Tier 4 emissions-compliant PowerTech diesel engines with the 12 Forward/12 Reverse PowrReverser Transmission and 540/540 Economy PTO as base equipment. Both can be ordered with either a climate-controlled cab or with an open operator station, an option not previously available on the larger 5E models.

Scott Schadler, product marketing manager for the 5 Family Tractors for the U.S. and Canada, said the updated John Deere 5E Series offers rural property owners, livestock producers and commercial customers more comfort, performance and versatility than any other utility tractor in its class.

"With six models from 45 to 100 horsepower within the 5E Series, customers can choose the power and options they want that best fits their needs," Schadler said. "The 5E offers a basic level of features and options in transmission, operator stations, and front axles that allows a customer to find a configuration that is a perfect fit for their applications and budget."

Most recently, the company announced that it is offering a new, 40-gallon DEF option on its 500-gallon fuel trailer. DEF stands for diesel exhaust fluid and it is used to reduce diesel fuel emissions.

The 500-gallon fuel trailer with the 40-gallon stainless steel DEF option gives owners a solution for transporting diesel and DEF in a package that can be hauled by a half-ton pickup.
