OMAHA (DTN) –- Continued Midwest rain and snow, a wintry precipitation mix in the Southern Plains, hotter and drier in Brazil, mild conditions in Argentina, and warmer temperatures in South Africa are the main weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.
Continued Midwest Rain and Snow
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for continued rain and snow in the Midwest, mostly in the eastern three-quarters of the region. Some transportation delays are in store Monday and Tuesday. After that, a colder but drier period should improve conditions for transportation. Concern remains high over possible field-work delays and flooding later this spring.
Wintry Mix in Southern Plains
Southern Plains wheat areas will turn colder this week, but not cold enough to harm the crop. The moisture from an active winter storm track should favor early growth of winter wheat come spring.
Hotter and Drier in Brazil
In Brazil, a period of dry and hot weather likely has diminished soil moisture and increased stress to crops. However, this pattern appears to be coming to an end during this week. The weather should be more favorable for soybeans and corn later this week and early next week.
Mild in Argentina
Argentina's central crop areas had scattered weekend thunderstorms. Rain from these systems continues to build soil moisture and favor crops after the late January hot and dry spell.
Warmer in South Africa
In South Africa's Maize Triangle, warmer temperatures and a little less rainfall will develop during this week. However, there are no significant concerns for maize after recent rains and cooler conditions.
