If I have learned anything over the past 29 years in the commodity business it is that prices can be crazy. I remember watching spot sugar fall below 3 cents a pound and wondering if it would ever go up again. We used to joke that sugar was becoming cheaper than sand. More recently, we watched gold soar above $1,900 and wondered when that train would ever stop.

Grains have had their own share of wild swings. In 1987, it did not seem like we would ever get out from under that mountain of surplus corn. In 2008 and 2012, ...
