My father often seeded sweet clover with oats. The oats grew in the spring and early summer and the sweet clover rallied in the fall to provide a shot of nitrogen for the corn crop that would follow. University of Nebraska agricultural engineer Paul Jasa has a similar childhood memory of standing in a wagon and scooping oats into an end-gate seeder and hairy vetch into the legume bin.
