Iowa Farmer Optimistic of Crop

JEFFERSON, Iowa (DTN) -- Iowa farmer Pete Bardole proclaims this year's planting conditions as "awesome," with good soil moisture on his farm near Jefferson, Iowa, northeast of Des Moines.

Pete Bardole and his brother Tim are the fifth generation on the 113-year-old farm, and with their dad, Roy, farm 1,600 acres of no-till corn and soybeans.

Excessive moisture last year damaged some crops, but left soil conditions for this year in good shape.

Bardole said the soil moisture is good for about the top 18 inches to 2 feet of soil, and hopes to get around 180 bushels per acre ...
