Early this week, I drove from Omaha to Pierre, S.D., for a speaking engagement. For weeks leading up to the trip, I was tracking weather forecasts, hardly able to believe my eyes with 50 degrees and wind forecasts for the trip north (Sunday), cloudy and colder for the trip home Monday.

I have a feeling Mother Nature is in cahoots with USDA and decided to get even with me. After the glorious drive on Sunday, Monday's trek became a nightmare as cloudy and cold turned into a whiteout blizzard from Mitchell, S.D., to near Vermillion, S.D., or roughly 120 miles. ...
