METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet features a ridge between Siberia and Alaska. A trough over Alaska and northwest Canada. And a blocking ridge over north-central Canada and northeast Canada extending into Greenland. This is a mild/warm pattern for western Canada, mild/cool central and east. The southern branch of the jet features a strong trough in the Gulf of Alaska. A strong ridge over the western U.S. And a strong trough over southeast Canada extending southward into the eastern U.S. The center of strong subtropical high pressure is over west Texas.
