The upper level analysis shows strong troughs centered in the Gulf of Alaska and over the Canadian Maritimes. We see weaker trough centers in the southwest U.S. and over north-central Canada. High latitude ridge centers are depicted over or near the Arctic circle. A mid latitude ridge is shown over the north-central U.S. The Subtropical ridge is mainly over the Caribbean and the southern Gulf of Mexico to the southern Atlantic. The focus for today's rain is the southwest U.S. trough that is moving east into the southern plains and eventually into the southern Delta.
