LUCAS DO RIO VERDE, Brazil (DTN) -- Long, white polyurethane bags have popped up all over the freshly harvested cornfields of Mato Grosso's northern reaches during the last two months.
They aren't some extraterrestrial offering but silo bags, the temporary storage solution to which many have resorted amid the chronic lack of elevator silo space in the region.
"Farmers use the silo bags out of necessity rather than love ... But it's a hell of a lot less risky than leaving corn in the open," said Laercio Lenz, president of the farmers' association in Sorriso, center-north Mato Grosso.
