I've been out in Washington, D.C., this week trying to avoid clichés as I look at where we are and how we got here with the 2007 farm bill.

Since a big part of the commodity title deals with issues surrounding Midwest farmers, perhaps a Midwest story comes to mind. The punchline is that Midwestern settlers had their wagons and journeyed from the east with great hope for the future and changing their lives and drove their wagons until they reached a point somewhere in Iowa or Kansas where they said "I'll settle for this."
