Scattered thunderstorms were noted in the southeastern U.S. Friday afternoon and a line of potentially severe storms was featured in Wisconsin and northern Michigan. Thundershowers also dotted the southwestern U.S. into the western Plains. Dry conditions were noted elsewhere in the primary U.S. and Canadian Prairie crop regions. Temperatures ranged from the low 70s in the northern Great Lakes to 100-plus in central Iowa, central Kansas, central Oklahoma and northern Texas. Des Moines, Iowa, appears to have broken its high temperature record for this date with 101, surpassing the record of 99 degrees in 1984.
