WASHINGTON (DTN) -- U.S. farmers will plant 12.71 million acres to spring wheat this year, up 10% from 2013 and above the range of pre-report expectations.

Durum acreage was estimated at 1.47 million, below the range of pre-report expectations.

Canola acreage increased to 1.75 million acres from 1.35 million last year, USDA said. It's the second largest planting on record. North Dakota showed the largest increase and will plant 1.27 million acres this year.

U.S. farmers will plant 332,000 acres to flaxseed, 83% more than last year's crop, USDA said. North Dakota's acreage doubled to 300,000 acres from last year's ...
