It is early Friday morning, and the distant drum cadence is muffled by the thick, cement walls. A kindly old gentleman known simply as "The Preacher" has visited each of the condemned in their own cells, offering a final word of consolation, but little hope. The remnants of their final breakfast -- the classic breakfast trade -- grow cold. Coffee, orange juice, bacon, everything but the bread (fittingly, given Wheat was one of those preparing to make its final walk).
