Rain Makes Alfalfa

DAVENPORT, Neb. (DTN) -- This year's alfalfa production is on its way to surpassing last year's, although crop conditions still vary according to region and the amount of rainfall received.

Areas in Wisconsin and Missouri have received ample rain and are enjoying improved alfalfa yields, though the season started somewhat late after the wet, cool spring.

The alfalfa season in some areas of Missouri is behind due to excessive rain, according to Kurtis Gregory, who grows about 70 acres of hay in northwest Missouri, east of Kansas City. None of Gregory's alfalfa acres are irrigated.
