9 DE JULIO, Buenos Aires (DTN) -- Carlos Popik's early-planted corn stands strong and tall in the midday sun, offering shade as he peels back one of the ears and snaps the cob in half to show the lovely deep core.

"The corn planted in September and October looks beautiful. We will likely get 10,000 kilograms per hectare (159 bushels per acre)," said the farmer on his 3,700-acre lot at the heart of Argentina's grain belt in 9 de Julio, Buenos Aires province.
