DECATUR, Ill. (DTN) -- Not to beat a dead horse, but it's time to get marestail under control. Widespread and often dense populations of this winter annual weed gained a bigger foothold this season.

"Many came to the difficult realization that marestail is not just a problem weed in southern portions of our state," observed Aaron Hager, University of Illinois weed scientist. He said farmers reported poor marestail control from herbicides applied prior to planting, especially in no-till soybean fields and when burndown applications contained only glyphosate or glyphosate plus 2,4-D.
