Mark Mueller loves growing corn. The crop responds to inputs and management better than soybeans, and the overall economics have wildly favored corn in recent years. Still, the Waverly, Iowa, grower is reluctant to totally wean himself off rotation.

"It seems like two years is all we can go in corn without incurring stand problems," Mueller says. "I've done the math, and I'd be money ahead to plant all corn; but the potential yield hit and my concern over managing corn rootworm has kept a third of my acres in soybeans."
