DECATUR, Ill. (DTN) -- Soil-applied residuals have become an important tool for growers fighting back against herbicide-resistant weeds. However, University of Illinois weed scientist Aaron Hager worries growers haven't gotten the message that weeds can overcome residual products too.

"There appears to be a misconception that weeds demonstrate resistance only to foliar-applied herbicides," said Hager. "Residuals can play a very important role in rotating the mechanism of action, but simply using them doesn't magically solve the concerns that weeds will evolve resistance."
