FDA Moves to Stem Trans Fats

OMAHA (DTN) -- Oilseed and food-processing industry groups spent Thursday trying to sort out the impact of a proposal by the Food and Drug Administration to phase out partially hydrogenated oils that produce trans fats.

The two most common partially hydrogenated oils used by the food industry come from soybean oil and cottonseed. Most often, these hydrogenated oils are used in processed foods that range from baked goods to frozen foods and condiments, as well as vegetable shorting and some margarine.
