Cotton futures traded with little conviction within tight ranges and exceedingly thin volume and finished mixed Monday, down 32 to up 24 points in traded contracts.

Benchmark December closed off 25 points to 84.27 cents, finishing an inside day around the lower third of its 54-point range from up 12 points at 84.64 to down 42 points at 84.10 cents. It spent most of the day on the defensive and settled at a five-session low close.
