Milk production in the Central region of the country increased marginally this week. Weather has been a challenge holding back steady production growth. Feed quality is also an issue affecting the potential of cows to reach peak production. This is being mostly overcome, but is increasing the cost of producing milk. Lower feed prices are helping to hold production with better with alternate feeds added to rations to improve quality. Manufacturing interest is mixed with some plants continuing to purchase extra milk while others are selling milk rather than to overproduce demand.
