It is ironic to see cheese prices increase over the past two weeks while milk futures remained steady or declined. Then when cheese price declined, selling erupted, pushing prices lower. Traders had been anticipating a retracement keeping futures close to cash by eliminating extra premium contained in futures contracts. Milk production is steady in much of the nation with cheese and butter production remaining strong. Colleges and universities have reached or are nearing the end of another year, reducing the fluid milk demand to those institutions.
