Opening hog bids remains on the defensive, ranging from steady to $1.50 lower (mostly steady to $1 lower). The cash cattle trade is very quiet in the early rounds. Though we haven't seen anything specific, we assume packers would at least renew preliminary bids floated yesterday (i.e., $142 in the South; $232-236 in the North). They'll probably have to try some harder sometime today in order to secure short term slaughter needs. Yet if asking prices remain firm at $147-148 in the South and $238 plus in the North, significant trade volume could easily be delayed until after ...
