GENERAL COMMENTS:

The cash cattle trade was not tested Friday with buyers and sellers content with the level of business conducted on Wednesday. Given the impressive pace of cash appreciation since the first of the year, feedlot managers can be expected to price showlists several dollars higher when business resumes on Monday. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base compared with the Prior Day's closing weighted average is $1.82 lower ($69.00 to $82.50, weighted average $79.40). Corn futures closed mostly fractionally higher, up 1/2 in the March and up 3/4 in the May.
