GENERAL COMMENTS:

Light to moderate cattle trading surfaced in the North at $194.50-$195 on a dressed basis, steady/weak with late July. Scattered deals were reported in parts of the South at $119, steady with both Thursday and last week. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base closed $1.87 lower compared with the Prior Day settlement $84.00-$101.25, weighted average $97.57). Pressured by near-ideal growing weather and plunging bean prices, corn futures closed mostly 2-3 cents lower (Spot September tumbled more than 11 cents). The stock market closed modestly higher in thin volume, ultimately ignoring a disappointing jobs report. ...
