GENERAL COMMENTS:

Cattle buying interest is really heating up this afternoon with packers bidding as high as $127-$128 in the South (i.e., $2-$5 higher than last week). A few cattle in Kansas have traded that way, but most area producers continue to pass, holding for $128 or better. Bids in the North rose to $203-$204 (i.e., $5-$6 higher than last week's weighted average basis Nebraska). A few cattle in Nebraska and Iowa have sold at $204. According to the closing report, the Iowa hog base closed 0.64 higher compared with the Prior Day settlement ($62.50-$78.75, weighted average $76.86). The ...
