Russia Grain Harvest Up on Year

MOSCOW (Dow Jones) -- Russia's grain-growing regions continue to report higher yields due to better weather conditions, with the harvest now over 95 million metric tons, the agriculture ministry said Tuesday.

The ministry said 95.3 million tons of grain were harvested to Dec. 2 on 41.8 million hectares, or 95% of the total area. Last year the area was 2.9 million hectares smaller and 74.5 million tons were harvested.

The average yield to date is 2.28 tons per hectare compared with 1.91 tons/ha on the same date last year.
