MOSCOW (Dow Jones) -- Russia's grain harvest this year, which has been hit by drought, is lagging behind last year's volumes by about 25%.

Russia harvested to Nov. 7 72.9 million metric tons of grain, compared with about 97 million tons on the same date last year, the agriculture ministry reported late Wednesday.

The grain was harvested on 38.6 million hectares or 98.5% of the total area to be harvested, and average yield to date is 1.89 tons a hectare compared with 2.31 tons/ha a year ago.
