RFS Change Effects Examined

OMAHA (DTN) -- A new analysis published by the University of Illinois' Farmdoc website supports what even ethanol industry officials have said regarding the effects of a cut in the Renewable Fuel Standard: It would have little negative impact on corn-based ethanol.

In fact, the report concludes that if the final rule includes the proposed volume cuts -- a 3-billion-gallon overall cut including about 1.4 billion cut from corn-based ethanol -- it could actually benefit the corn-based ethanol and corn industries in 2014-2015.
