OUTSIDE MARKETS

Canada's TSX equity market is currently 49.8 points lower, or 0.4% lower at 12,671.99. Beat-up commodity markets are largely behind the move. The Canadian dollar is 54 basis points lower at $.9923 CAD/US dollar on weak Canadian economic data. Canada's factory shipments fell 3.1% in December, when a 0.8% drop was expected. The U.S. dollar is 0.032 higher at 80.570. Gold is $29.60/ounce lower at $1,605.80/ounce. This morning's trade fell below $1,600/ounce for the first time since August based on favorable economic data in the U.S. NYMEX crude is $1.43/barrel lower at $95.88/barrel, while Brent crude is $.19 ...
