First RIN Futures Contract Traded

NEW YORK (Dow Jones) -- The first futures contract for renewable-fuels credits changed hands Tuesday on the ICE futures exchange, the latest development in the market that saw unprecedented volatility earlier this year.

IntercontinentalExchange Inc. (ICE) said one lot of its recently launched futures contract for advanced biofuels credits -- known in the industry as "D5 RINs" -- traded hands for 88 cents per credit Tuesday afternoon. The contract was for December delivery.

RINs historically have traded in private transactions, but last week ICE launched three RIN futures contracts in a bid to capitalize on a surge of trading activity. ...
