US Drought Conditions Ease

CHICAGO (Dow Jones) -- U.S. drought conditions continued to ease slightly in the past week, although severe drought remains prevalent through much of the U.S. Plains.

The weekly U.S. Drought Monitor reported 46.1% of the contiguous U.S. experienced some degree of drought as of Tuesday, down from 47.7% the prior week and 72.8% at the start of 2013.

The improvement continued in the Midwest region, which includes the heart of the corn belt, from Minnesota to Ohio. Just 6.3% of the region was experiencing drought, down from 10.2% last week and from 47.6% just three months ago.
