Floods Pummel Central Europe

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones) -- Agriculture in Central Europe has been hard hit by floods -- the worst some regions have seen in more than 500 years -- while industry analysts estimate the economic damage could top that seen in similar flooding in the region in 2002.

Economic damage in Germany from the floods is expected to cost some EUR11 billion ($14.6 billion), equal to the damages caused by devastating floods 11 years ago, said the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Friday. Still, the damage estimates in some individual German regions could continue to rise.
