Light to moderate rain is in store for the western Midwest Thursday, with some welcome showers headed for dry areas of southwestern Iowa. The rain is important for an area now in moderate drought according to the Drought Monitor. We'll also see light showers in portions of the Southern Plains, and moderate to locally heavy rain in the Southeast. Other U.S. and Canadian Prairie crop regions will be dry. Temperatures will be mild in all areas except for central and south Texas, where hot conditions will be in effect.
