The northern branch of the jet stream features a blocking ridge over Alaska. A trough over western Canada. A blocking ridge over central and northeast Canada. And a trough to the south of the block over southeast Canada. This is a cool/cold pattern for much of Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a ridge off the west coast of the U.S. A trough over the Rockies and Plains. And a ridge over the eastern U.S. Subtropical high pressure is located over the southwest atlantic and over southwest Mexico.
