METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The high latitude blocking ridge is located this morning well west of Alaska. We see significant upper level low centers over southwest Alaska, north-central and southeast Canada and over the northern Atlantic. We see a strong polar jet stream moving inland over the Pacific Northwest before dipping southward over the central and eastern U.S. The extreme cold conditions in Canada will settle southward to meet this jet stream and now covers much of the Midwest and the Great Lakes region.
