The northern branch of the jet stream features a weak blocking ridge to the north of Alaska. The pokar vortex over Canada, centered over central Canada extending eastward across Greenland. This is a cold pattern for most of Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a strong ridge in the eastern pacific/Gulf of Alaska, A strong trough over the southwest US. And a ridge over the eastern U.S. Subtropical high pressure is located over the northwest Caribbean.
