METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a blocking ridge between northeast Siberia and Alaska. The polar vortex over Canada, centered over south-central Canada. And a weak ridge over eastern Greenland and Iceland. This is a cold pattern for Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a migratory trough over the eastern pacific/Gulf of Alaska. Some ridging over the western U.S. And a trough over the eastern U.S. and western atlantic. Strong subtropical high pressure dominates most of Mexico, the Gulf of Mexico and the western Caribbean.
